3 Must-Dos to Reach your Goals in 2020

Schedule A consultation

By Gabrielle Bobick

Happy New Year! With every new year comes resolutions that, let’s be honest, most people don’t stick to for more than a month. Some only last a week. So, what can you do about keeping your resolutions or goals? Stay accountable! Here are some tips on keeping on top of your resolutions in 2020.

Write it down.

For years, studies have proven again and again that writing things down helps transfer information from short-term memory to long-term memory. The more you write, the better! So, make a few lists of your resolutions, by hand is best, and keep them around the house, office, etc. Seeing them written down will help remind you to keep going.

Talk about it.

Just like writing, saying them out loud over and over helps commit information to memory. But more than that, talking about your resolutions to family and friends means that they can help you stay accountable. They ask about progress and talk about their own resolutions for you to ask about.

Buddy up.

The best way to stay accountable is to make a list with a friend, family member, or spouse. You both get to work towards bettering yourselves and can keep each other accountable. If you’re competitive, come up with a reward for the one who sticks to the resolution best. If that’s not your style, the support of a buddy can make keeping a resolution easier. Having fun with resolutions makes it seem less like work, and more like play.

We can help with the Estate Plan part.

Is working on your estate plan part of your New Year Resolutions? We have lots of wonderful workshops coming up for clients. Check out what’s coming here. Just getting started? A great place to start is to attend a public workshop on Wills, Trusts and Estate Planning. You can register here.

Don’t give up.

Bonus tip: have a rough day, week, or month? Don’t throw in the towel with your goals just because something sets you back. Keep an eye towards December 31, 2020. The most important thing you’ll want to be able to say when you look in the mirror is that you didn’t give up. We’re rooting for you!

Your Experienced Estate Planning & Elder Law Advisors

We have a team-centered approach. While each client’s family works with one attorney, our attorneys regularly discuss the design of our plans with each other in order to ensure we’re doing everything possible to help you meet your goals.

In addition, each client works primarily with one paralegal, who gets to know you and your estate plan intimately through the design and
implementation process. The biggest complaint people have about
lawyers is lack of communication, and by working as a team we have
virtually eliminated this complaint for our clients.

Learn more about our family and then let us learn more about yours.
