Fifteen years ago this month I sat down at my kitchen table and began helping people plan for disability and death. I didn’t have any grand dreams of creating a law firm with a team of 12. No aspirations to be voted best attorney in Colorado Springs, certainly not 3 years in a row. As I sipped my coffee and drafted documents there in my kitchen, my only desire was to help people.

And then you came along. When I met you, I fell in love. I fell in love with the way you’ve spent your entire life taking care of and protecting your family. Your willingness to spend the time and money to take care of them even through your death. The way you came in and faced your own mortality in order to make things easier for those you love. The way you entrusted me and eventually our entire team with everything you’ve worked so hard for.

Even more, I fell in love with your stories. The stories of tragedy and triumph, of love and drama and heartache and hope. As you began sharing your lives with me, as we began developing relationships, I moved into my first office and hired our first paralegal. And here we are 15 years later … with two beautiful offices in Denver and Colorado Springs, now working from our home offices much of the time to keep our community safe.

Here’s the thing. It’s not about the documents. It’s about really knowing you as an individual, as a family … your assets, your goals, your values, and your concerns … what’s important to you, so that we can design and implement a plan that does what you want. And each of our clients has allowed us into your lives so that we can help you. We are deeply grateful and honored, and committed to serving you for the long run.

We had an amazing 15-year anniversary event planned until the pandemic came along. We would love to be with you in person to celebrate you and all that you’ve done to inspire us. But instead, we are here by video. I’m sending you a virtual hug and my wishes that you and your family are well and that next year we will be able to gather together and celebrate.
